Screening Room Notebook: Kurasawa’s Sanjuro

The sequel to Yojimbo, Kurasawa’s Sanjuro is just as good and funnier. What collagist directors like Quentin Tarantino can’t steal from Kurasawa’s best work was the gravitas. And while the gushing blood at the final duel scene is bound to have today’s audiences howling with laughter, it is the only major weakness of an underrated masterpiece.
